Obituary for Bimla Nanda Bissell
Heartfelt Tribute to our beloved Bim Ma'am.
Ms. Bimla Nanda Bissell, a trailblazer in the Indian textile and craft revival movement, passed away on Thursday, January 9, in New Delhi, at 93. A visionary far ahead of her time, she embraced concepts like sustainability and textile revival decades before they became integral to the fashion industry.
In 1958, as a fellow advisor at the Cottage Industries Emporium in New Delhi, Bimla passionately championed Indigenous weaves and crafts, influencing and inspiring her husband, John Bissell, to found FabIndia. Today, FabIndia is an iconic fashion and lifestyle brand deeply rooted in traditional craftsmanship—a testament to her enduring legacy.
Bimla's commitment to social progress extended beyond the realm of textiles. As a co-founder of The Fabindia School, she demonstrated an unwavering dedication to education and community development. Through the John L. Bissell Foundation (JLBF), she facilitated scholarships, improved infrastructure, and ensured quality education for underprivileged children, particularly young girls. She was pivotal in empowering them and supporting initiatives such as TSAALS to nurture their potential.
Her contributions to Indian artisanship, cultural preservation, and education have left an indelible mark on countless lives. The Fabindia School family gathered to honor her memory, celebrating her remarkable life and legacy of compassion, vision, and impact.
Bimla Nanda Bissell's passing is a profound loss, but her legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.

My Favourite Subject
My favourite subject is music. I love singing and listening to songs. In music, we also play many types of instruments like the piano, drums, and guitar. Music is a wonderful way to express our feelings and emotions. It helps us relax and is a very joyful and enjoyable subject. It plays a great role in everyone's life as it has healing qualities. In this busy, crowded, and corrupt world, music keeps us happy and provides relief to our minds. Many people like to listen to or sing songs or play an instrument. It is a great source of entertainment. Music is something that heals us and makes us feel motivated and happy.

The Beauty of Winter
Winter is often celebrated for its unique beauty. In colder regions, the land transforms into a snowy wonderland, with rooftops covered in white. The sight of frost-covered leaves glistening in the sunlight and frozen lakes creates a picturesque scene that is both calming and inspiring. Just looking outside at the layers of snow calms me down. Untouched snow is even better—a blanket of shimmering white that covers everything.

Books
Books are referred to as a man's best friend. They are very beneficial for mankind. Books give us a lot of knowledge about everything we see. Reading books helps our mind relax and stay active. Books are available on various topics like literature, folk tales, storybooks, philosophy, science, history, food, culture, and many more! They are used to store information and knowledge that can be passed down to many generations. Different people read different types of books depending on their interests. Kids mostly like to read storybooks and comics, grown-ups often enjoy novels and motivational biographies, while older people prefer reading holy books.
Nowadays, people spend more time on their mobile phones rather than reading books of their interest. We should read books as they improve our vocabulary and help us become more confident.
